<image:title>Children & Adolescents - Individual & Family Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>We believe you when you say “my kid isn’t doing this [behavior] anywhere else, so no one believes it’s a problem.” That’s definitely a real thing. Neurodiversity (ex. ADHD, autism, learning disorders), Shakespearian-level anger spells, grief, and exhausting anxiety is our scope of practice. Our team is family-centered, and since every family is unique, we can’t tell you exactly what to expect. Lots of kids need a private, safe place to practice new communication and self-regulation strategies. Some kids aren’t ready to come in at all, but their parents need sessions for a mini child-development bootcamp or a healthy dose of empathy for a tricky situation. We aren’t here to try and make a particular treatment modality work for you (though we are trained in CBT, humanistic, psychodynamic, Adlerian and systems-oriented philosophies). Our motto is “whatever works,” we’re alongside you.</image:caption>

<image:title>Adults - Individual and Couples Therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>“A good fit” between therapist and client isn’t bullshit. It’s crucial. So keep looking for the right fit until you actually find it. First, think of something you’re not comfortable telling most people. Then ask yourself - “do I think this therapist will judge me if I tell them?” and if so, “can I at least tell them I’m afraid they’re judging me?” If the therapist says something like, “now let’s talk about why you might worry about that” then get the f* out of there. To be fair, eventually we may talk about that but only because shame is such a worthy adversary. For couples it’s slightly different. Usually people worry that the therapist will align with their partner and they’ll end up feeling even worse. It’s actually a great sign if you hate your therapist together occasionally! That’s a happy team.</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5ecd78dd357f2b58e13d25d3/021ddb38-bf72-4cf5-89fc-146b5f17c4b1/GrowwwKitThe_Townies+14TheTownies.png</image:loc>
<image:title>Adults - Parenting Strategy & Decompression Sessions</image:title>
<image:caption>If you are a parent, or are thinking about becoming one, the prospect of therapy probably never seemed scarier or more hopeful. 90% of the work is learning to tap into “gut instincts” and intuition that isn’t really gut-work at all. It’s inherited wisdom from countless generations of human experience, channeled into your family’s specific stories, challenges and strengths. Strategies will consider your child’s developmental phase, diagnosis (when relevant) and your parental goals. The decompression component is equally necessary, because for better or worse - parenting is a marathon and not a sprint.</image:caption>

<image:title>Adults - Individual Therapy for College Students</image:title>
<image:caption>If you haven’t heard it already, “emerging adulthood” is a developmental cluster-fuck. You are not crazy, there’s simply too much happening at once to process efficiently, and there tends to be a (mostly impermanent) reckoning. We’re here to support you in navigating the common contributing factors, like: determining accurate diagnoses, exploring the big questions/decisions, and keeping (good) friends closer.</image:caption>

<image:title>Adults - Testing</image:title>
<image:caption>Dr. C-W’s first question will be: have you ever done testing before? Often, people who come to see us were diagnosed with a particular condition in childhood, which has evolved over time. In those cases, we are engaging in a psychological “tune up” to make sure that the current diagnosis and treatment plan is up-to-date. Plenty of other adults have never done testing before, and are curious about their cognitive, emotional and social profile. Testing involves an intake appointment, one or two half-day sessions and more often than not, a couple of questionnaires you can complete virtually. The process is very different from therapy, so please feel free to call and ask for more information. All your questions are good questions.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Dr. C-W is a licensed clinical psychologist. She works primarily with young adults, parents and couples. Specializations include: anxiety, neurodiversity, life transitions and family relationships. I love working with “emotional bloodhounds.” By that I mean highly perceptive, intuitive and empathetic people. To save a little time for you (or the bloodhound you are raising) - the real work typically has much less to do with changing yourself or anybody else, but with using your strengths to get better at being overwhelmed.</image:caption>

He moved to Washington, D.C. over thirty years ago as a freshman at Ivy College. Right after graduation, he attended World University’s School of Dentistry. Before opening Keene Dental in 1994, he worked for free clinics and some of the finest practices in the District. He is part of the 123 Dental Association and stays up-to-date on the latest dental discoveries. When not striving to keep his patients happy and healthy, he’s enjoys hiking with his family in Rock Creek Park.</image:caption>
